"Schmip-Hop" (Original)

A$1,200.00
Sold Out

This work was all about having fun. I've had the board for years, with an abstract artwork that I liked but always felt it was unfinished. The themes and colour palette give me big 90's vibes, reminiscent of 'rad' Kmart rollerblades, MTV hip hop vids and early morning "Rage" on the ABC. Elements of the original abstract painting are left in the background, hinting at the progress and change in the artist.

Various lines and shapes interconnect and overlap allowing the viewers eye to wander over the artwork, finding hidden shapes and new combinations. The work playfully uses the phenomenon of facial pareidolia to reward the audience with a variety of possibilities hidden within the mix of lines and shapes.

This work draws inspiration from a blend of cartoons, animation, graffiti and fine art practice. I've been experimenting with a less 'perfect' style recently and introducing more spontaneous, expressive and gestural elements to the application of paint and materials.

The majority of material in the artwork is acrylic paint, applied with brush and spatula. Aerosol paint used for the drop shadow and other smaller elements throughout the work. Acrylic Ink is used for clean, skinny lines in paynes grey and titanium white.

*Note - This artwork is currently unframed, but a frame can be made for an extra fee
